For a short period in probably around 2011 memes were attacked and OC was discouraged, the popular belief being that anything that could be considered content would further degrade the website.
A meme extinction happened and with it went Advice Dog. The only survivors are Pepe and Wojak, which only happened because /r9k/ formed a bubble culture separate from the newfag flood on /b/ and other boards that believed shitposting any post that resembled old 4chan was cancer/reddit.
