A modern professor would absolutely be reprimanded if, say, they pushed the findings of a recent experiment as concrete fact despite the results actually pending rigorous review/replication to be confirmed. Even if their findings were later confirmed, their behavior in preemptively teaching it as "fact" would still be regarded as misleading to students and unprofessional. We would not throw them in jail - we've obviously realized that's a bit much - but even today the same behavior would be regarded as unacceptable.
