Yes there is a very sinister purpose for Q in one aspect.
However,
It was also a honeypot to discover talent, find and identify anons who had very special “gifts”.
Identify nutjobs who needed to be watched or de-armed.
And simply to allow Potus to mingle and hear what real supporters outside his bubble were saying, much like kings who used to dress up as commoners and wander around to see what his subjects were really thinking.
