Uber should be more strictly regulated but the main competitive edge they have is that they're not stuck in the past and the drivers all work for themselves. It's not one guy sitting at the top managing a bunch of drivers for profit while only a limited number of those high level licenses are issued.
Different models for different times. Frankly the taxi industry should have modernized a long time ago.
A little bit of both would be good.
