You have to connect A to C and D, and also B to C and D. If the lines are not allowed to intersect, this always creates a closed shape. Now, if one of the other elements ends up inside this closed shape, you're fucked, because now you can't connect to it without passing through its outline. Now you have to connect B to E somehow, and it's obvious that you can't do better than a direct connection because it doesn't block anything.
