Yugoslavia wasn’t all that bad, from what my grandfather told me, it was the best communist country to be in. It doesn’t matter now since his son (my grandpa) moved over to the US and the rest is history.
Hilarious story though, my grandpa moved back to Croatia in the late 80s in a town called Umag, and started a bed and breakfast on the coast which was hugely successful. When the war started, all the Croat soldiers went there to rest for a few days. My grandfather was found out because he had a Serb item on the menu and he escaped Croatia after they were trying to kill him.
