>>9418373>is being a man just a feeling you haveKind of, but being morn male and assigned a boy at birth, it becomes very subtle to realize. Because im masculine everyone already treats me like a man so its easy to imagine that my body is a part of my gender identity, but it isnt. It took a long time to realize that other people may identify in a way that differs from what they were assigned, but now i can kind of imagine it. Again, for a cis man its extremely difficult to imagine feeling uncomfortable with your gender identity, and i only began to after listening to non cis experiences
>if you and only you get to define yourselfI think this is tricky phrasing since gender is, ultimately, socially constructed and informed largely by society. But you are right that gender identity is something only an i dividual can experience for themselves
>why not do the same for race and age and heightAge and weight are not social constructs
I think age is actually a really compelling example, since there are certain roles expected at certain ages, and not everyone fits those roles, sometimes old people join biker gangs to act 20 again.
Race is an interesting example since it is socially constructed, and youll actually see that for people riding the line between racial categories, but not quite fitting in either, their racial identity is kind of personal. However most of the time, no matter how much you identify with your race or not, its kind of forced on you, which is really just because of modern race's history (mostly as a colonial tool for oppression)
