I've built fires from nothing but some flint and steel. But if you aren't going for the sake of "super minimalist bushcraft" kind of stuff and you want to just start your fire and be done with it.
a cotton ball soaked in petroleum jelly is the best ever. It's super lightweight. super small. can be ignited by a match, flint and steel, a regular lighter, a butane lighter, whatever. It is water resistant. etc.
Cotton ball + Vaseline = GOAT camping firestarter
