not all the clans died with oda and matsudaira/tokugawa, the nagao/uesugi, date, shimazu, mori, and many others were still extant at the unification (and some even still are and have lineage)
the hojo, takeda, and uesugi get a lot of praise for being hardcore japanese traditionalists and being at the forefront of that standard samurai image, while oda at the same time gets a negative image for being a little more modern (for the time) and invoking guns and subversive tactics to win. iirc the whole kanto plains strongman image anime invokes are derived almost entirely from the image of hojo fighters
but the details beyond battles for that point of history are a little iffy for me, i really need to get a book on the subject
