>>9520887>>9521455i want to defend this but then i remembered as much as the imperial system gets trashed, we (and by we i mean Canada in particular, i have no idea about other countries) use the imperial system almost every day. i have literally never heard a canadian unironically describe their height in meters except for on government issued IDs. we always say "im x foot y", nobody says their height in meters
we use pounds and ounces when talking about bodyweight much more often than we use kilograms
we use fahrenheit much more often than celsius when we are talking about the water temperature of a pool. i dont think ive ever heard a pool temperature be described in celsius
we still use cups, ounces, teaspoons, tablespoons, all that shit when cooking most of the time
still use pints at bars when ordering beer
hell we describe liquor bottles by their number in ounces, most commonly "two-six" (26 fluid ounces), "forty" (forty fluid ounces), and "sixty (sixty fluid ounces). actually its weird to me that the US doesnt do it this way because we literally adopted it from the imperial system, which you guys still use but i digress
we also still describe the size of houses/apartments/condos/whatever in square feet. i have literally never heard this described in square meters
still use caliber for guns most of the time
not sure if "knots" counts but we use that too, although that one is fucky because i think it is an imperial measurement based on a metric measurement based on an imperial measurement
when someone says some shit to me in kilos or meters within reference, i always convert it to pounds or feet, like "50 kilos, ok so that 110 pounds" or "2 meters, ok thats like 6 and a half feet"
