>>9538657I just realized there are no landlocked countries on the southern continent. The Lake is probably the most densely populated place, considering that there are 3 capitals that sit on it's shores, Recently the south-shore faction won a war against the east-lake faction (red) and cut off their access to the lake, and they are very salty about it. The south-shore are very bitter rivals of the north-shore faction, and will probably be at war all the time for control of the great waterfall, as whichever of those controls the falls controls the entirety of the territory downstream of it, which is a decent plot of kickass farmland. considering that the lakeside factions have very little of that to go around, most of their food typically comes from fishing the lake. The north-side faction's peninsula is incredibly important as it allows them to navally control the Lake and thus the falls. I imagine there is some monumental infrastructure to allow the lakesiders to trade and cross down the falls to the lower plains on the shores of the central sea. In the east, The northern peninsula of the southern continent was originally a colony of the southern peninsula of the northern continent (Peninsula nations are fairly common in reality, see Italy or Spain or Korea), but when the islands unified under the rule of the westernmost island, they were able to bring their naval power to bear upon the peninsular people and completely cut their nation in two. In the resulting peace deal the islanders became the new rulers of the peninsula. It is too far from the center of power of the eastern empire to be able to rule effectively as of yet, but the eastern emperor does see it as his rightful territory and at some point will probably launch a campaign of conquest against the islanders. This will be interesting because while they are kings of the sea, they aren't especially experienced with land warfare, and may have trouble holding onto their new lands.
