Once the breakup of Yugoslavia came around, the ones "responsible" for it were the others. In Serbian case, that meant the Serbian muslims. And with that came a massive propaganda campaign about just how much they kept struggling against the horrors of Ottoman rule and how the genocide was nothing more than final deserved payback.
I mean, for fuck's sake. You always hear about the Battle of Vienna and shit like that. You hear about the brave Poles coming in to save Christendom.
Why? Eastern European nationalism. You don't hear about the fact that Sweden, France and England were effectively supporting the Ottoman side against the Habsburgs. Or that Poles were imbeciles who did themselves in since Habsburgs, true to their nature, invaded and partitioned the place once they regained their footing and Ottomans stopped being a threat to them.
