Copenhagen: In a massive drug haul, Danish authorities have recovered at least 100 kilograms of cocaine from a Russia-bound container ship. The authorities have also arrested 27 suspected drug smugglers from the ship.

The smugglers have been charged with drug crimes. If convicted, the accused could face up to 15 years in jail.

The accused are from countries including Russia, Philippines, Latvia and Ecuador. According to the Copenhagen Police, the drug seizure was coordinated internationally.

The ship is identified as Duncan Island and is registered in the Bahamas. The ship was intercepted when it was sailing south of the Danish town of Gedser.

"It's good news that we have prevented the cocaine from going to the streets. We are probing where the delivery of cocaine was bound to," said Copenhagen police inspector Dannie Rise.

According to a report, the ship was headed to St. Petersburg in Russia. The worth of cocaine is said to be $50 million in the international market.
