What are some downsides to converting to Orthodoxy?
I think they have a bunch of weird rules as to how to set up icon corners in your house etc

What icon rules exist? As far as I know, there are no strict rules for where icons must be placed other than treating them respectfully. There might be different customs about where different cultures put their icons (maybe Greeks generally put them in one place and Russians put them in another place) but I don't think it's a rule exactly.

If you don't have a place in your house to set up icons like the "rules" say, it's fine. Just set them up somewhere respectful, it's far better to have them up than to not just because it's not "right".
I'd say the biggest downside to becoming Orthodox is how it will separate you from some people. Or rather, they will separate themselves from you. Protestant friends and family will be shocked that you became Catholic (they confuse Orthodoxy with Roman Catholicism), atheist and non-religious friends and family will be shocked by your "zealoty" and point to your icons or prayers, or that you sometimes go to church more than once a week.
These are all struggles you must endure and your fellow parishioners will help you overcome.

Start by reading up on the basic theology of the church, the Trinity, the idea of theosis and such if you haven't already and go to church and speak with a priest. Ask about becoming a Catechumen, you’ll know afterwards if it’s right for you

The only “downside” is that is that you become truly accountable to the creator of the universe as His adopted son. It’s not really a downside though. Joining the Orthodox Church is the best decision I ever made, but it’s not something to take lightly.

Actually this council I really need to think about it. I agree with Mark of Ephesus on many points but I always wonder why he was the only one basically that opposed it.

This council is one of my troubles with the history of orthodoxy, haven't read that much into it.

And then one of the bishops who signed it then accepted the patriarchate from the ottoman king in exchange for rejecting the council. The eastern schismatics literally became a branch of islam with the ottoman king as their pope maker. No wonder the filioque was so abhorrent to them as they hate the idea of christ being divine and by arguing that christ does not send the holy spirit that would mean he is merely a creature not God.
