English and French are in different language groups, but the two countries have had a close-knit relationship with eachother during the course of history. It makes sense that many English words originate from French words.
In a similar fashion, we had some history with the Danes. I can't remember the exact details anymore, but we were on pretty good terms with them sometime around the 1600s. That might be how Danish influenced English.
Fun fact, in the first act of Macbeth the Danes were suppossed to be the ones who attack Scotland. Norway ended up replacing Denmark because the English didn't want to upset the Danes.
