I can understand giving up after hitting a wall since /a/ in recent years hasn't been helpful at all with encouraging people to branch out but there are still plenty of anime out there if you aren't interested in the more common premises. Though nobody disregards Utena because it's set in a high school. You gotta focus on the execution.
