there is no higher "understanding" then your own subjective reality, the enlightenment may have gotten us some tools, but ultimately it will not lead to personal fulfillment, a bit nihilistic sure, but nihilism pared with a strong sense of will is what has driven humans for thousands of years,
hungry = must eat
must eat = danger
danger = might die
might die = may eat
not eating will kill you, eating may kill you
so why not hunt?
