from the beginning for metal gear actually starts with the metal gear NES games and those aren't very fun, but they're still part of the plot somewhat
there's two ways people play the series these days
>start from mgs3since it's the first mgs game chronologically
>start from mgs1since it's the first mgs game released
any other ordering will leave you entirely confused but generally
>mgs5 requires that you've played mgs3 (optionally you should know the plot of the metal gear games)>mgs4 requires mgs2 which requires mgs1 (which optionally requires the metal gear games)that's ignoring side games like portable ops or peace walker, which i think they all are sequels to mgs3 but idr
