Assuming you were the same person, you were self aware enough to realize what the problem is. All you really have to do is work on it, and believe me when I say that you can. You don't have to represent some sort of bizarre "ideal", you just have to be yourself. The best version of yourself. Hitch up your big boy pants, put on some good music, get yourself active and find that person who is a good compliment to your shy, socially awkward, introverted self.
You can't get anything unless you do something. Otherwise you have no right to complain.
