>>9711237The British Atlantic territory of Tristan de Cunha
1300 miles from the nearest adjacent archipelago. 1500 and 2300 miles from the two nearest continents, respectively. Current population: 250 + a research station, with many islands in the archipelago being entirely uninhabited. No airports anywhere, the only way to get to the archipelago is by boat. Pleasant subtropical climate. Abundant fishing opportunities, ready source of food. Beautiful mountains and wildlife.
It would not be difficult at all in the event of an apocalypse to take a small group, maybe 1000+, sail to the main island, and conquer the main town of Edinburgh. Then we're set for life, nobody else is going to bother sailing thousands of miles to conquer such an insignificant plot of land, especially not during a period of total societal collapse.
