The CDC and WHO may have been downplaying and lying but they were certainly paying close attention. The world has had months to prepare, and while they've failed to act swiftly, I feel like their measures are proving extremely effective.
This isnt some collapse inducing virus if South Korea can literally beat it in a month. If all it takes is isolation to beat this thing, of the cases are that detectable and traceable, it's already over.
I honestly believe that containment in China has worked. Yes, Wuhan is fucked but the fact that Beijing doesnt look just like Wuhan tells me this virus is very very much beatable. We're not seeing worldwide Wuhan. We're seeing localized outbreaks based only in cities where they fucked up the response. And most places are quickly learning how to do the correct response.
Beijing doesnt look like Wuhan and they are in the same country.
