Kids do that all the time and it's beneficial.
It helps them to better understand their own role in society by imagining life from other people's perspective.
It's no different to pretending to be a cowboy, or policeman, or astronaut.
I wonder what young boy didn't clomp around in their mother's shoes, telling their imaginary self or imaginary friend off for some imagined misdemeanor, at some time or other.
