>An annual Atlanta gathering of people dressed in furry suits that was scheduled for May has been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
The non-profit organizer of the convention, Furry Weekend Atlanta, made the announcement in a Monday letter to expected attendees of the four-day event.
>“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that Furry Weekend Atlanta 2020 has been canceled in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19),” the group wrote.
Restrictions and recommendations against hosting large gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic led to the organizer’s decision to nix the gathering.
>“We feel this is the best course of action for the health of our friends, families, and the community at large,” FWA said.
A number of events and programs were scheduled to take place during May’s convention, including a fursuit dance competition, giant video games and board game rooms, according to FWA’s website.
