>>9828783It's not just about languages being similar, but rather about accuracy of translation of colloquial speech, you know, ellipses, swearings, wounded grammar, etc., and these sorts of things are very important in JTTEOFN. But for some reason, Russian translators can never get them right. For instance, I can remember how my English teacher had gifted me a copy of The Catcher in the Rye in Russian before he left back to England, but the translation made it a very unpleasant read and I dropped it by the moment when Holden was having a fight with Stradlater. Not being familiar with the original text, I just thought that the book was shit and didn't bother with it for some time. However, several years later, I decided to give it a re-read but now in its original language, and that time this book deeply impressed and captivated me, and even to this day I still think that it's a very good one. That's probably a prime example of transportation making a text dull to read just like you were talking about. And since JTTEOTN is kind of similar to TCITR in its vast usage of colloquial language, I thought that I could encounter this problem once again in the Russian text
