There is a bulgarian(I think) guy who cracks new updates to all of their games very quickly, and has made them playable in multiplayer. You can only play with other people that use his client, but it works fine.

Also, they are releasing a fucking "immersion pack" for eu4. In short, a dlc with far less content but with similar pricing.

You search up cs(dot)rin(dot)ru hoi4. Rezmar is the uploader you are looking for. You register an account and download his stuff. He puts up new updates / dlc on the day of their release most of the time, and you can play with your friends (if you have any). The bad part is that most of the time you'll have to download through google drive, he rarely puts up torrents. But it's worth it, after getting the game you'll only get single file patches anyways.

the game isn't even that good, you probably won't enjoy it without things from steam workshop (kaisereich, road to 56, etc) since the modders make better content than the people behind the dlc. still quite easy to just get a copy and play singleplayer if you really wanted to tho from any torrent site

The main reason for the pricing stems from the nature of the games. Grand-Strategy as a genre isn't as popular, so they need to put 'luxury pricing' on it to make a profit from selling it to less people than an average action game. But still, they should think something up, because let's face it: you buy an almost empty game that just came out, and then buy three times the price for a bunch of dlc that makes it enjoyable.
Every Paradox game needs atleast a year to have enough content to call it enjoyable.

Try Stellaris with all the dlc, it has gotten pretty good since it's release. Plenty of stuff to do, and the AI isn't as dumb as in most of the Paradox games (still does strange stuff occasionally tho).

meh, it's not even the price on dlc that bothers me, it's the content that genuinely makes the game worse, while stuffing important things in dlc making you 'pay' for updates. best example of this is mandate of heaven; asia needed tons of fixing in eu4, but they ended up making ming an unkillable god, unless you somehow cheese being on their border long enough giving them a disaster

Nah, the worst part of eu4 is the combat system. They built up a decent one with terrain, troop types, combat phases, leader stats, other shit. Then they took a shit on it and threw a dice in, so you can do basically whatever, the dice will decide who wins.

total war series is just right. playing napoleon right now. fucking denmark almost managed to destroy one of my stacks that got isolated. i destroyed one of their armies then i ran out of movement and they hit me during the turn. ended up only losing one unit of cav and having my line infantry severely depleted. good thing ai is retarded and marched straight into my grapeshot

I love Total War games too, but most of the times I get bored halfway through the campaign. Having a turn limit on the campaign is also a turn off sometimes, I like to turtle up and take it slow.

Never played any of them that came after Shogun 2, and my favs are Medieval 2 and the original Rome. I don't know what's up with the ai nowadays, but in these you could win every battle with a simple hammer and anvil manouver.
