Why do Americans hate cursive so much? Is their education really that bad?

I keep reading "ughh,why did we learn that shit instead of like, learning how to fill out taxes" or "no one can read it anyways" or even "I haven't touched a pen and paper in years" . Surely they can't be that retarded right?
