I got into anime in the mid to late 90s and I thought it was cool, mature, different, you know stuff that appeals to edgy teens, and it was very different from the types of stories, themes or genres, and artwork that American cartoons were like then. It was still pretty niche at the time, you had to find random VHS tapes in some dingy video store, comic book shop or search early obscure online forums, and whatever I found I initially shared with some of my friends. Soon enough as it got mainstream in the 00's, I quickly realized how "cringy" others acted (weebs) and I became too self-conscious, decided to keep it to myself and avoid doing the typical consumer or community things, just watching some series time to time.
Some people think it'll change your sexual orientation or something but I don't know anything about that, never happened to me. But what I think it does is turn you into a neet if you get too deep into it. I have gone to school, worked, gotten girlfriends, had sex etc, but you have to at least make effort for that. Don't let your obsessions with video games, cartoons, anime, whatever distract you from other things and have a healthy balanced life.
