a) Clamp designs, they would have been even more popular back then with things like xxxHolic having aired recently and CCS being very popular; I personally would have been keen on something that didn't have fucking Hirai designs
b) general accessibility (non-franchise original) and meme potential, owed mainly to Lelouch
My biggest 4chan-related regret (besides not having left yet) is being too young to have watched TTGL when it aired.
