Going forward from TW2 to TW3 is fine, since the games were always industry leaders in their time, but going in the opposite direction is less comfortable. Decide for yourself, if you'll have trouble enjoying TW2 between the story segments (crafting and monster hunting), skip TW1 altogether, it's even clunkier than TW2 and the story isn't really that good on its own. TW1 makes more sense as a book than a game, but it's the starting point that establishes the post-book "did not die but amnesia, but why?" continuation arc. A bunch of references are cooler in TW3 if you play TW1, but otherwise it is a very non-mainstream RPG with a very regular "beat the doomsday cult" story
