I heard of some poll that asked middle-aged adults and young adults whether or not they believed in soulmates. The older adults would be disillusioned by failed marriages and so forth yeah? The numbers were within a few percentage points.
You could interpret that in a number of ways but I think some of that is owed to meat market apps like Tinder. Not everyone uses it but it's very degrading to the idea of true love. Like, the gulf between the feeling of meeting someone you click with in the wild and finding some single you would fuck on Tinder and going, "well, hope this works" is huge.
