They're less genuine clinical depression and more attention seeking behavior, as if trying to say "look at me and how edgy I am, I'm probably really interesting!" Especially when you combine it with bandages and cat ears. Of course, if your character is some fantasy catgirl from fantasy catgirl land, exact clothes don't matter as much. Now, if you had her making that exact expression while attacking something, which SHOULD be exciting, that might convey a sense of depression as well.
By the way you can totally have banana and scythe. You just have to make them with belts, hair, or ribbons.
