Yeah honestly I'm not that familiar with Iwara's background. How would I go about pinging this person? At the very least, I could contribute towards showing there's a demand.
Open source is definitely important IMO. In fact, I think that pretty much every content sharing platform should just follow a booru system of doing things, unless there's a better system I don't know about. Heck I kind of wish my PC's file system could use a booru-like browser. Instead I'm using Everything and that works pretty decently as long as I put the proper "tags" in the filename.
Sankaku's take on the booru is interesting, though I'm not sure if theirs is open source. They seem to have a pretty good Japanese-English handling of tags (each tag, if it exists in the other language, can be used interchangeable with the one in the other language).
