Yeah, conventional wisdom as far as I am told is you start and then you don't stop until eventually you're there. No shortcuts, no easy step-by-step guides to get there in X weeks, just time, investment and sticktoitiveness.
I do know somebody who does art, not the lewd digital variety unfortunately, but that's how it goes for them. Ask them what they're up to any given day and they'll tell me what they've been drawing for practice that day.
Seems daunting but you cultivate it like any other hobby. It's not a matter of "Aw man I better get my hour of mandatory practice in today" but more "Hell yeah, I got an hour free, time to doodle something"
The same way I get excited about having an extra hour to look at anime titties online. Not being able to switch my mindset away from doing it out of necessity and toward doing it for fun, is the main reason why I played an instrument in school but now it gathers dust.
