Every once in a while i get pissed off because of the mess my folders are and how its impossible to fit all pics in a single folder no matter how i organize it.
Most recently I got to Shotwell, a nice app for tagging. I imported the folders one by one(biggest was 1500 pics) and tagged all the images in that folder with the folder name. Was a good start.
OTOH, Shotwell has bad integration with the filesystem and doesn't handle semantics, but it's still the best I have found so far.
