The cruise had been a boring affair. Ami had never been one for boating vacations, which was ironic, as much as she loved the water. It felt like it isolated her away from the ocean itself, forcing her to mingle and talk with others who had no real shared interests. Everyone on the craft felt... hollow, in a sense, like they only were friendly to pass the time, and had no actual desire to be sociable. Ami had tried out of instinctive politeness, of course, but nothing had amounted to any real connection. Little wonder she had ventured out alone that night. It was maybe 10, 11PM. A few were still out and about, perusing the decks, getting late night drinks, or even trying to chat up the occasional single.
Another thing Ami hated about cruises... they were either geared towards couples or singles, and if you weren't the former, that meant you were the latter, and it meant dealing with all manner of persons with one thing on their minds. It just... wasn't her cup of tea, she supposed. She'd have rather been curled up in her bed with a good book, but that was no way to spend a vacation. At least they were due back at shore soon, another day at most. She still had a few weeks left in the off season, so hopefully she could spend them doing something fun, like swimming or studying.
Ami had been leaned against the railing for some time, watching the nighttime water pass by. The cool air tussled her hair and fluttered around her attire, a simple white blouse and a knee-length skirt, the sort of outfit she'd change out of in favor of something more comfortable once she was in her room. She reached into her skirt pocket, ensuring that her room ID and pocketbook were still there, having left most of her belongings in her room.
