My throat is sore, and there isn’t that much sunlight left. Going there was a terrible idea. I’m searching around in Route I; there’s bound to be something to catch around here. Ralts is out; she’s searching signals of life with her abilities. This would progress a lot faster if she would let me hold her on my arms and she could just point a direction, but for some reason she thinks that’s denigrating or something and won’t let me do it. So I’m stuck following her walking at the speed even a Slowpoke would get frustrated at.
Ralts finally finds her target and points out to a bush. We close in and hear a rustling. A Pokémon, yes! Come out and it is… a Rattata. This one is of the bigger ones I’ve seen so far, it would make a nice addition to the team.
“Go, Ralts! Use Confusion!”
I stand back at a safe distance, not willing to take any risks. The Rattata is feisty and energetic; trying to flank Ralts left and right; but Ralts’ Confusion just throws it out of balance every single time, no matter how much it tries to dodge. When it seems like the Rattata is having trouble standing up, I take it as a signal.
I throw a Pokéball. Yes! Right in the mouth. The Rattata becomes a red glow, and it gets smaller and smaller finally getting inside the Pokéball. Both Ralts and I see it bounce to the ground and then move side to side. Once, twice, three times now. And then… the Pokéball breaks in half and the Rattata comes out, now angrier than ever.
It forgets Ralts and goes straight for me. I’ve practiced throwing balls for too long to let it end like this though. I don’t back away and make my second throw. This time, the Pokéball stays silent and inert on the grass. I pick it up.
“Yes! I’ve caught my first Pokémon!”
