Although some people seems to believe the messy melty aspect you get when you use more than 4 images turns it into some sort of "feature" rather than a flaw. I respect their aesthetic choice, but don't share it, for me looks just messy.
That being said I don't think there is any point in ever using more than TWO. Most part of the time people can only see one style on the images, at most they can see a couple artists.
If you use 4-5 artists, even if you get lucky and doesn't get too messy YOU will see traits of those 4 artists here and there, but any third party that sees your picture will only see one, the strongest one or at most two of them.
