The version of Goku and Vegeta from the DBGT timeline (it's an alt universe to the current DBS timeline) grow their tails back when they turn super saiyan 4. Those guys time travel to the main uni erse and are now called Xeno Goku/Vegeta.
I think the tail is very cute (+). It makes the girls look more primal and scrappy. The non tail version is fine too, canonically.
