I'm feeling supportive, so I'll go full-on encouragement for Kiku. I don't have a good idea of what the boat looks like, there could easily be a low-traffic area like the fantail, (avoid the foc'sle, the bridge will have a clear view,) a sundeck, the ship's head, or a machinery space. I don't know what kind of boat I should be picturing, but I'm imagining a Ferry. But gauging from your description, it sounds smaller and more crowded.
So barring the option to seek or find seclusion, I have two slightly far-out options.
If you're quiet enough to sneak in, all eyes on the bridge will be facing forward. None of the other students would venture up, and none of the ship's crew would expect to find you up there. It will NOT be uninhabited, but they'll be too involved with navigation of the ship to spot you if you don't make any noise.
Alternatively, leave your bag unattended and report it to the ship's crew. "If you see something, say something." You'll have the crew in bomb-threat mode and should be able to slip away in the confusion. You may or may not get your bag back is the biggest drawback.
