https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4aZJcSh2XQYeah for masking it I will usually just magic select and then refine it with smooth and feather, but then to make sure that the edges arent messed up I will go through with a brush and clean up any spots. For the color I generally have 2 layers, 1 that is just a dark brown, more brown than I plan in the end, and then a second one below it that is just the normal one that I use the burn tool on to get the shading very contrasted. I then change the entire opacity of the dark layer until I get the color I want. Also to just change the brown between a more red/orange brown, and a grey brown I just choose the brush tool and select the preset brown on the bottom of the pallet and choose 'color' for the brush options, which makes the entire picture brown.
