Alice had a bad feeling. Before taking off, she approached Alex with a hesitant expression. "Um, so... am I supposed to do a set number of laps, beat a certain time? Just... wondering what kind of goal there is..."
Alex looked up from a tablet with a frown, tapping both hands against her sides, making an exaggerated display of her irritation. "Look sweetie, it's a track, not applied physics. Just run as best you can, we'll tell you how it went, now if you don't mind..." Alex gave a dismissive 'shoo' wave before turning back to her files.
Lot of good that did her. Alice sighed, having an even worse feeling that this was affecting her chances... best to just get on with it.
Then, just before starting, a younger man, possibly some sort of intern judging by his nervousness, called over to her in a terse whisper. "Keep your wits about you."
Huh? What did that mean? Alice blinked, looked ahead, and after shaking her head, took off in a brisk sprint, deciding to be quick about it to make up for the loss of time.
It was about a quarter of a way down the track when a large sign shot up on the side of the path, impossible to miss.
"You are confronted with a long, winding road, with nothing in the way to the left, and a short, direct path, fraught with peril to your right. Which do you take?"
Did... this mean for her to shift positions?
Alice was halfway done with a lap by that point. Moving over would slow her down, but... what if this was a test?
What would she do?
[A] Shift to the left path.
Stay her course.
[C] Shift to the right.
