I sometimes scale down drawings and apply a limited pallette to them to create sort of a imitation pixelart. Pic related uses 8 colors from Arne Niklas Jansson's Famicube pallette. It really still looks like traditional art that has been adapted for a limited pallette, but it sorta works for me too, not as good as real pixelart though.
