As aliens prepare to invade, they designed a superweapon to enhance their strength and speed enough to make humanity helpless in the coming battle. The prototype weapon, in the form of a mutagenic ooze, was designed to react with a particular enzyme in the bloodstream to permanently grant the enhancements.
Unfortunately for the aliens, the weapon accidentally falls to Earth and splatters a cheerleading squad during practice.
The aliens notice that there were no changes to the girls and assume that the different biology made the weapon incompatible with humans and press forward with the planned attack.
The girls, however, notice that they show unusual strength and speed after an embarrassing loss to a rival team. It turns out that the weapon did grant the same enhancements to the girls but their human biology means that it takes a rush of embarrassment to trigger the change and the powers only last for the duration of the feelings of embarrassment or humiliation.
The Earth's only hope, the girls must band together to fight the invaders and have to ensure their powers are there when needed. The embarrassing moments are easy enough at first but they soon realize that the more they rely on the same tricks, the more they've grown accustomed to them and so the shame doesn't last as long and sometimes fails to trigger at all. The longer they let the alien war continue, the more difficult it becomes to maintain their dignity as the world watches helplessly.
