However I always see gelbooru get shit, but no one ever says why. I guess everyone was secretly using danbooru before their addons for it failed, and had a secret pact to not divulge why gelbooru was apparently bad. Their elitist and undefined criticism aside, gelbooru has had redirect ads for the past year, and formerly had a "wait 5 seconds" ad that didn't redirect for a year before that. Gelbooru recently added search suggestions for the searchbar, which is nice except when you haven't had a redirect ad for the session yet and clicking a search suggestion eats the tab, opens a new one without your searches, and makes the previous tab an ad. It's not respectful. Also they purged their "toddlercon" tag in 2012 or so, and don't allow "grotesque" imagery (so no shitting dick nipples), delete for false reasons (western image deleted for being western, yet their artist tag has hundreds under it still) etc.
If you open a big enough image directly in sankaku, it's literally impossible to save on mobile; it'll redirect you to a "redirect.png". I had to learn to tap images to expand to full size in page. If there's a way to always display full size, it doesn't seem to be available for non-users. Gelbooru also started redirecting clicks to a joke 3DPD fat man video last year, but it seems that was just testing the waters compared to their anti-adblock efforts now. Sankaku's "Users who liked this also liked:" recs under images are really easy to get lost in. I don't use adblock so I can keep using these sites, but if the ads are really bad I can see why you'd boycott them in principle.
