There is something about going through with humiliating oneself despite having agency. This is also why I never really liked scenarios with "slavery" theme. Someone who has already given up and is impossibly outmatched, in my mind at least, is always thinking "hey, could have been worse" whenever authority degrades them. Also, partly this is why I'd like to have heroine that isn't lower in status than everyone else. Picking on a weak nobody seems much less exciting to me than bringing a proud hero down a notch. Maybe it's just my sickening fetish, I don't really know. (Is it?)
