Fate/stay night had weird choices with its heroic spirits to contribute to the mystery and tone of the story/setting. Strange designs and class choices to keep you guessing. The obvious ones like Heracles and Sasaki Kojiro are stated right after being introduced, and Cú Chullainn only a couple hours later.
Rider is intended to remain a mystery for 2 whole routes until she gets her identity reveal and proper screentime in HF. Even after an all-out fight to the death with Saber in Fate.
