If you had to say purely anime, it was probably in the 7th grade when I saw a Cutey Honey VHS tape near some Pokemon cards behind the counter at a store. I learned it was called anime and then found AOL groups focusing on "anime babes" and various GeoCities and angelfire web rings with other bouncy characters. I flew too close to the sun, my dad found my internet history and after that there were internet filters on my computer until he was too busy "working" (cheating on my mom apparently) to bother checking if the web filter was active. It shifted me towards video game characters and images from gaming magazines, plus the occasional super popular female character like Asuka who would show up in other places.
