Some people will think of what amounts to a .jpeg of an apple while others will have more 'depth' to their imagination - like the space the apple takes up and the flavor of the apple and the sound of its crunch.
If a story says that a naked girl is in handcuffs, I'm thinking more about her lack of mobility or ability to cover herself than I am about what the handcuffs look like. If it says she leans forward without realizing her nipple is visible down her shirt, I'm thinking of the feeling I get when a girl is unaware that she's flashing me. If it describes her pants falling down while she's running, my mind jumps to the sound of the garment hitting the floor and the sensation of losing one's balance.
