A value of 0 never sends what's called the the Referer header or set document.referrer. The effect is sort-of like when you turn off your cookies which can cause some sites to not load or work properly.

There's alot of techno-babble but it seems it's fine to set the value to 0 and it should be able to be set back to the default value of what it was before you changed it.
