I have to laugh a little at you changing the text encoding for the readme's to Unicode. Even now, there are still sometimes Japanese zip files that take special knowledge to unzip without mojibake filenames, and the zip format even has the capability of storing separate Unicode filenames: the only reason for mojibake is that Japanese people don't care enough about foreigners to use a zip program that stores these Unicode filenames, in addition to system-native Shift-JIS.
Having to save any MME effect that uses bone or model names as Shift-JIS is definitely a hassle. (Like, it limits accented characters in comments and file paths: cannot even say "á".) One more knowledge barrier to using MMD.
Image: old models are at the back. First two use default shader and WorkingFloor mirror effect. Third uses Adult Shader Velvet: turned off ENABLE_ENV_SPECULAR, turned on MAIN_LIGHT_SPOTLIGHTS. Loaded 'AdShaVelvet/ShF/AdultSha_FC_v3_weakSpec.fx' to everything, loaded 'AdShaVelvet/controls/Spotlight controls/ML_Spotlight1.x' and 'ML_SpL_1_Color.x'. Turned main light to very dark green-blue, made spotlight mostly red. Changed draw order so that pmx draw objects draw after accessory 0 (i.e. before any) for last image, because ground shadow draws before pmx objects and mirror, which is an accessory, needed to draw after the pmx stage. Gray background is just a noisy jpg with gradient. Had to turn on stage for last image because spotlight looks weird if it doesn't affect the floor: ground shadow looks bad with any pmx stage since it draws before the stage and blocks it.
